Doritos Galore
I just read that bags of Doritos suddenly started washing up on the shores of North Carolina today. I can't imagine anything better in this world than having nachos literally wash up beside you at the beach. If only a container carrying salsa would have been beached as well.
You can read about it here. read more

Stitch Free - again
Well, I got the steri-strips off and the stitches out just a while ago. It actually looks pretty good. There's a small line of dried blood that should come off in the next week or so, but once that's gone I don't think there's gonna to be too much of a scar at all.
Here's a picture taken just a few minutes ago (for those of you interested). Sorry for the stupid angle, and the stupid pose, but it's hard taking self pics.

Christmas Movies
So tonight Jeff stopped by for some nachos and to watch a Christmas movie. Well, its not exactly your typical Christmas Movie, but I like to watch Die Hard at least once a season, since it technically has some Christmas music in it. I wish they made movies like that nowadays. The last good action movie with the same spirit was probably True Lies, but everything else just takes itself a little too seriously.
On another note, I have an appointment tomorrow morning to get the stitches on my face out. I've had these ... read more

Does Money Buy Happiness?
Here's a good link, thanks to Chris.
The connection is complex, he says. But in fact, very rich people rate substantially higher in satisfaction with life than very poor people do, even within wealthy nations, he says.
"There is overwhelming evidence that money buys happiness," said economist Andrew Oswald of the University of Warwick in England. The main debate, he said, is how strong the effect is.

Best Sitting Position
Everyone always bugs me at work for sitting in a sort of "lying down" position. However, recent research seems to back me up.
The "slouch" position revealed a reduction in spinal disk height, signifying a high rate of wear and tear on the lowest two spinal levels. Across all measurements, the researchers concluded that the 135-degree position fared the best. As a result, Dr. Bashir and colleagues advise patients to stave off future back problems by correcting their sitting posture and finding a chair that allows them to sit in an optimal position of 135 degrees.

Request for Music
Anyone have any good music suggestions for me? I've been trying to explore the Indie scene a bit more. I like most songs from the Garden State Soundtrack.
Suggest anything! Thanks. read more

Moral Support
I stuck close to home this weekend, only venturing out briefly to restock my movie pile and grab some food. Friday night, Chris and Cisco popped by to see how I was doing. Later, Tiffany, Katherine and Jenn also came by, and we all just listened to music and hung out.

It's pretty cool that it's snowing outside. I can't remember the last time it snowed in Vancouver in November. I really love winter. There's something about the peace and quiet that goes along with the ... read more

Snow, Sand, and Sky
Clay posted an article today talking about the snow, and how his camera tended to make everything look dark. What he didn't realize is that his camera was actually doing what it was probably supposed to do. And here's why.
Almost all cameras have light meters that are set up to try and make every scene around 18% grey. Some guy a long time ago looked around and realized that almost every real-world scene is made up of midtones, and these midtones are usually in the ballpark of 18%. So, whenever a camera looks at a scene, ... read more

The Hidden Rift has a new home
I finally got tired of leaving my computer on 24-7 for this web site, so I set up a hosting account through godaddy. Surprisingly, it wasn't that hard to transfer everything over from my machine. The funny thing is that I probably am going to save more money on power by having it off than it costs me to host it.
I'm sure there will be a few things here and there that don't work, but I'll fix them as I hit them. So, as of now, the computer in my room is completely off, ... read more
