The Start of a New Year
Well, it's nearly that time again -- in less than 24 hours, 2006 will dissolve forever, and 2007 will be before us. It's been a strange and challenging year for most people I know, myself included. I started the year with this incredible desire to travel, and ended the year feeling the need to hover closer to home. I saw quite a bit more of the world this year, and managed to visit San Francisco, San Jose, the Monterey Coast, Tokyo, Boston, New York City, Toronto, Calgary, the Rocky Mountains, and nearly made it to Huatulco, ... read more

Clay tagged me the other day, which means I need to state five things about me that nobody really knows. So here goes.
I had a job at K-Mart when I was 17. I'm not sure if my manager didn't like me, or if some cosmic power was punishing me, but I spent most of my shifts in ladies-wear folding all the panties in the bulk bins. And it's not like they were some hot thongs or brazillian panties -- these were those eggshell-white granny panties. I still wake up screaming in the night thinking of ... read more

Last Couple of Days
Well, the relaxing period is nearly over. In just a few days, 2006 will be over, and 2007 will ring in with the first work day in over a week for me. I've spent the last few days taking it relatively easy.
On Thursday night I went out with Hesty and Neil down to some places in Yaletown. We hit Elixir, and then made a brief stop at Bar None for a few drinks. I'm definitely getting too old for that place.

New Toy
I went out today and picked up a little Christmas present for myself - the Canon 430EX Speedlight. I've never really had a chance to get into flash photography, so I'm looking forward to messing around with it. The nice thing is that the internal flash on my 20D really sucks. For some reason they never included a focus assist lamp for low light conditions. Canon's way around this was the fire the internal flash several times in a row to try and do a focus in low light. However, this usually scares whoever you're ... read more

Merry Christmas Everyone
Hey everyone,
I just wanted to wish you all a very Merry Christmas! I'm in Chilliwack for a few days enjoying some R & R with my family. I got about twelve hours of sleep last night, plus around 3 or 4 during the day on my dad's couch this afternoon in front of his new 46" 1080p TV. I'm at my sister's tonight hanging out with some relatives.
A present to me from my dad
Update -- well, it's officially Christmas now so Merry Christmas. Time sure is flying. It's already Monday, and ... read more

‘Tis the season to be jolly
Friday night I took some time out for a few beers with Derek and Cisco. We started down at Malone's on Seymour and Pender, made our way down to the Yaletown Brew Pub momentarily (only to realize it was packed), hit Elixir at the Opus Hotel for a few bottles of wine, and finally ended up down at the Caprice for a while. I find it rather unfortunate that it's next to impossible lately to go anywhere for beers on a Friday evening and actually get in. In fact, my last couple attempts for an after ... read more

Big News In Medicine — Possible Diabetes Cure?
I was coming into work this morning, and I read this on the front page of the Vancouver Sun. This is pretty big news in the medical community. Apparently some researchers at UofT have found a way to reverse diabetes in Type 1 diabetic mice. This is exciting because it was always thought that type I diabetic people lost the ability to produce insulin because their own immune system completely destroyed the beta cells in the pancreas. However, the beta cells in these mice became active again once they had an injection. Here's the original ... read more

Can you really be this dumb?
I found something a little more dumb than me making perogies the other night. Here's a recent quote by Lindsay Lohan:
Lindsay Lohan says she's been going to Alcoholics Anonymous meetings for a year, but hasn't talked about it because "it's no one's business."
"I just left an AA meeting," the 20-year-old actress tells People magazine in a story posted Tuesday on its Web site.
"I haven't had a drink in seven days. Or anything," she says. "I'm not even legal to, so why would I? I don't drink when I go to clubs. I drink with my friends at home, but ... read more

The Great Perogy Battle
Tonight I had the stupid idea that I would come home from work and make a huge batch of perogies. Normally, I don't attempt anything that dumb -- at least not while sober -- but with a big potlock coming up this weekend, I really need something to bring. Since I know my friends all like my grandma's perogies, I decided to attempt that.
Perogies
So, I realize I'm not my grandma, and there's no possible way I could put as much love and ukranian charm into my perogies as she does hers, but I thought I would take ... read more
