Vegas Recap
Since I have a few minutes to kill in the Las Vegas airport here, I thought I'd write a quick update on everything since leaving my pad back in Vancouver. Firstly, traveling on a long weekend sucks. The Vancouver airport was a complete zoo, mostly because of the forthcoming holiday, but also due to all the construction on the rapid line. I walked around the US departures area for a while looking for my flight, only to finally figure out that it was actually leaving from the International terminal instead of the US side. And for ... read more

I'm at the airport in Las Vegas, about to put some more photos up from last night and write a blog entry. But before I do that, you gotta check out this photo.

My Bags Are Packed - Heading To Las Vegas
So, I'm just doing my last little bit of packing, and then in a few hours I'm heading to the airport for my flight to Vegas. If anyone wants to see what is happening down there in real time, head over to Rebecca's blog for live updates. I'm going to be adding to my Flickrset for the event, so check that out as well (I'll add the images below here in real-time, assuming I can borrow an internet connection and haven't drunken myself into a coma).
I decided to leave my wide-angle lens at home, and just bring ... read more

Hospital Music, Matthew Good’s 7th Album, Now Live
If you're itching to hear what Matthew Good's 7th album, Hospital Music, sounds like, then head on over to MatthewGood.org - they are streaming it live from the website and also have a iTunes radio stream available.
The first single, Born Losers, is available on iTunes, and the actual release date for the entire album is July 31st. Last time I checked, Born Losers was #11 on iTunes, so hopefully it will break top-ten shortly.
I'm packing my bags right now, and heading down to Las Vegas tomorrow to sit around a pool on Matt's birthday and listen to him ... read more

Birthdays, Pool Parties, and Wineries
Update - Matthew Good release his first single, 'Born Losers', on iTunes the other day. It's currently sitting at #11 on iTunes, and should hopefully break into the top ten sometime today.
It's been quite a while since I've had an upcoming weekend that I was extremely excited about. But this next weekend promises to be full of fun and adventure.
On Friday afternoon I'll be boarding a plane and heading down to Las Vegas to spend an evening hanging out with my friend Matt on his birthday. Matt's currently working on his tan out in the Las Vegas ... read more

Stanley Park Photowalk
I have a wedding to shoot in a few short months, so I've been asking friends if they'd let me shoot them to get some practice. Today I met up with John, Keira and Rebecca for a quick photo walk in the park. To be honest, after doing this shoot, I think I feel comfortable shooting outside now. I sort of always assumed my 70-200mm f/2.8L lens would be pretty useless in poor lighting or in a wedding environment, but when I used it today with my speedlight, it was actually pretty awesome. Every time I ... read more

Kris Krug snapped a pretty fun shot of me at the last Gastown Photowalk.
And the reverse shot as seen from my camera:

Ilford XP2 Film Shots
I got my first roll back of Ilford XP2 back from development. My overall impression of it is pretty good - the grain is pretty light for ISO 400 (at least my memory of what ISO 400 was). It's not as contrasty as I normally like, and I bumped the contrast up slightly before posting them, but it's not that bad. The dynamic range is pretty decent, and the only shots that it struggled with were taken outside in the sun. All in all, I'm impressed enough that I'll give it another go.

Shooting Film
Today after work I dropped off my first roll of film to be developed. It was a 36 shot roll of Ilford XP2, and it's probably the only black and white roll I've ever shot in my entire life, now that I think about it. The neat thing about this roll is that you can develop it in C41 chemistry (used for colour print film), which means you can basically get it developed anywhere in the city for next to nothing. I also have a few rolls of pure black and white to shoot, so I think ... read more
