Statecharts

Lately at work I've been doing a few statecharts for things, so I thought I would repost the one I made last year that I did while completely bored last year. There's a cool program ("cool" being an extremely relative notion in this instance) you can get called graphviz that can create these things fairly quickly. "Happy Times" State Transition Chart I had a cool idea for a contest too I'm gonna blog about and get some participation in. read more

20 Things You Didn’t Know About Me

The giant duck I bought last year at Christmas I am Christmas fanatic. I love hanging out in malls and watching people, or sitting at home listening to Christmas music. Last year I left my tree up until April, just because it made me sad whenever I thought about taking it down. I've been known to buy random stuffed animals (including this huge ass duck) to give away to people during the holidays. There's a Christmas moose I bought who now holds my door open in my room. I once took part in several nationwide mathematics competitions, ... read more

Great Shots from Massey Hall

Phil took some amazing shots of Dala and Matthew Good at the concert the other night. If you want to check them out, head over to Phil's blog and take a gander. Hang out there for a while -- he's a cool guy. Matt in Massey, photo by Phil read more

Awesomeness

So it's not very often something can make me bust out loud laughing, but this did the trick. I'm a closet Star Trek nerd, and used to sit around and watch episodes with my dad growing up. One of my favorites is when Kirk takes sand and rocks and shit and blows up that Godzilla looking guy on that weird planet. He's that good. I found this photo on Christie's facebook page, and she told me it was cool to blog it. This thing still cracks me up every time I see it. ** Update, the green ... read more

This Has Got to Hurt

I just read an article online that did a comparison between a bunch of different machines running Windows Vista. You know who the winner was? A Macbook Pro. The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year is a Mac. Try that again: The fastest Windows Vista notebook we've tested this year--or for that matter, ever--is a Mac. Not a Dell, not a Toshiba, not even an Alienware. The $2419 (plus the price of a copy of Windows Vista, of course) MacBook Pro's PC WorldBench 6 Beta 2 score of 88 beats Gateway's E-265M by a single point, but the MacBook's ... read more

Blogging, Friendship and Weekend Recap

I officially woke up this morning sometime around 10am, quickly packed my things and headed down to the airport for my flight back home. Somewhere around 30,000 feet, a few minutes out of Toronto, I realized that I didn't really have anything to read, my iPod was basically dead, and I had seen all the movies on the in-flight entertainment. So I did what I do quite often on planes -- stared blindly at the GPS indicator of where the plane is, and did some thinking. The whole weekend was pretty amazing. I spent most of ... read more

Blogstock Toronto

Once again, I'm tired. It's 4:59am Toronto time, and I'm just getting to sleep. I had a wicked time hanging out with Tony, Raymi, Phil, Christie and Chad tonight. The night was shut down early thanks to some asshole who broke the styrofoam eyeball, but it was still fun. I took a pile of shots, most of which are available here. That being said, my favourite shot of the night was Raymi kicking some guy's ass playing guitar hero. Dale is passed out on the bed next to me, and he's leaving first thing in the morning ... read more

Matthew Good Concert At Massey Hall

I'm bagged, so I won't write anything until tomorrow. Dale is crashing in my hotel, and we had a pretty awesome night. It's 3am here, and we just left a big Halloween party where Raymi, Fil, Chad, Dale, Patrick and I were at. Matt's concert was pretty amazing. It lasted nearly 2.5 hours (that's just Matt), and he did two encores. Dale, Sara and myself spent the entire show up on stage right, a few feet from Matt, and it was a great experience. After the show we all met up in an upstairs room and hung ... read more

In Toronto

Well, I made it. I had an early morning flight and didn't get a great sleep, but I'm all checked into the hotel. I went for a long walk downtown and managed to find Eaton Center. I got my hair cut, bought some new jeans and shoes, and eventually located Massey Hall, so I'm all set for tonight. I had a ton of problems at the airport this morning, mostly due to some grumpy security worker. They made me go back and get another boarding pass, all while making me feel pretty stupid. Plus, ... read more

Samsung attempting to end format war

This is an obvious play, but I've been waiting a long time for it to happen. Samsung has announced a new dual format (HD-DVD/Blue-Ray) DVD player, which basically means it will play everything on the market: Samsung's HD disc player was going to be the first to do both HD DVD and Blu-ray completely right. But now, it's perfect: Samsung just sent us an alert saying the dual-format BD-UP5000 Duo HD player will come hardware-ready for BD Profile 1.1—at least 256MB of internal storage, secondary audio and video decoders, virtual file system. You realize that the rest of the Blu-players ... read more
