Tomorrow is Wednesday, and that means there are only a few more days of work left before the holiday season officially starts for me. While I’ll be working all the way until Friday, the feeling around the office is a bit more relaxed these last few days, and there are more smiles and cheer than normal. Some of my lucky co-workers have already left for wherever they are going, which makes the office a little quieter and the days a little longer.
I think I’ll just take it easy in Vancouver on Friday night, and then head into the valley Saturday morning for the holidays back in Chilliwack. To be honest, I can’t even remember the last time I was back. Months at the very least, before I got sick and ended up in the hospital if I remember correctly. I’m definitely looking forward to spending a few days in front of the fireplace, reading a book or two, visiting family, and catching up with some old high school friends that I haven’t seen since last year. Plus, I’m really anxious to head outside with my camera again and snap some outdoor photos — seems I don’t do enough of that these days.
For those of you who don’t know what or where a “Chilliwack” is, it’s a small little farming community about an hour and a half east of Vancouver. It’s part of the Fraser Valley, which means it’s nestled between a whole pile of mountains, and surrounded by a few rivers. It’s fairly gorgeous, and I’m looking forward to walking along the river by my dad’s place, or heading up to the lake to throw rocks with my niece and nephew.
There is apparently a boxing day bash somewhere I have to be where a lot of my old friends are going to show up for, so I’m definitely excited about checking that out. On the 27th I’ll be coming back to the city to pack my clothes for the journey east again, and will ultimately end up in Toronto for five days of drunken debauchery, something that I’m really looking forward to. Because I’m a total geek (loser?) I added a little countdown timer to the top of my blog which in theory will count down the time until I have my first beer in Toronto (which is timed to be about 60 minutes after I land).
Christie and Raymi a few months agoConsidering I don’t even really remember what I did the last few years at New Years, I think it will be a nice change to get out of the city and hang out somewhere new for a change. It’s going to be a lot of fun hanging out with Raymi, Tony, Phil and Christie again, and I’m *so* looking forward to having a few beers with nachos again. Plus Raymi now owes me a martini, kind of like this one except way better:

Hopefully Dale and Sara can come out one night as well:
Dale and Tony @ Blogstock TorontoAnd Cid owes me a beer I think.

If anyone’s out in Toronto, drop me an email and I’ll do my best to maybe meet some people at a bar one night if I can swing it.
i am on a no nachos diet until new years
absolutely! I’m sampling nachos all around town.
hope you have great holidays duane! good luck with the last booze free week :-)
Can’t wait till you get here! We are going to tear it up.
Oh, apparently I can’t read raymi.. Your no nachos diet is a very bad idea if you mean actual New Years. Very bad indeed.
You need to start eating nachos on the 28th again, because that’s when I get there. Go write it down, and draw some nachos around it. Put a heart there too, and put the whole works in a basket, because really, as Cid knows, everything is more fun in a basket.
