I spent most of the afternoon down at a coffee shop today catching up on a few computer-related things. On my way home I decided to stop at the Yaletown Brewing Company (which is right on my way) and have a quick pint. That was two pints ago.
I’m sitting in the corner, chatting with people online, and trying to plan my upcoming vacation. Truth is, I really have no idea what to do. At the end of last week I found out about a coding session taking place in the San Francisco area, and was invited down for that. So I might be heading down there for the week of June 16th. If I do that, then it completely changes my vacation, as I’d be flying instead of driving.
Truth is, living in Vancouver kind of sucks in terms of seeing the world. Everything is a pretty far haul from here. Europe is a good 9 hours, and the east coast is at least 5. Living in Toronto you have so many more options (Europe, the Caribbean, New York, Boston, Florida, etc).
It turns out that it’s pretty slow in Vegas these days, and I’ve found some pretty nice (think 31 floors above the strip) four bedroom apartments for around $250/night. So part of me is thinking I’ll hole up in Vegas for a few days and get myself into as much trouble as humanly possible. A few of my friends said if I get a pad like that they’ll fly down for a few days, which would be pretty awesome. I’ll probably go check out the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam as well.
I’d like to head out towards Toronto again and hole up at Dale and Sara’s place for a few days. I’m not sure I can swing it this vacation, but hopefully sometime this year for sure. I’m pretty pumped about hitting Los Angeles again as well. As I mentioned before, Tony has promised me an afternoon or early in the sun with nachos and beer (in fact, his Twitter status today said he’s already practicing eating Doritos in anticipation of my monumental visit). Plus, since Shira missed coming to Vancouver for Northern Voice, hopefully she’ll be able to join us for a few beers down in LA.

I briefly debated Hawaii, but I think I’ll save that until I get some more people together. At work on Friday Adrian invited me to come hang out with some of his friends in Barcelona during the first couple weeks of June. Apparently they have a 5 bedroom apartment near the water there, and will also be visiting Ibiza. Lots of options.
So right now I have no idea what I’ll do. If I need to book flights, I really need to get on it soon. It’s clearly not a decision I can make without another beer, so I’m going to get back at it.

Hmmm….keep me posted about Vegas…might be an option.
Think you can take a few week-days off? I’m hoping to go like Tues-Sat kind of thing.
That looks like Matt in that top photo. As a matter of fact, I’m quite sure that is Matt and I’d say that photo was taken the day of Robbie’s wedding… BTW, I say you should definitely do the Vegas thing, but that’s just my opinion.
Come to WWDC and learn how to really program iPhones, d00d.
@Kevin - Yup, that was Scase, and that was the day of Robbie’s wedding! Ahh, drunken disc-golf in Quebec - does it get much better?
