Lately I’ve been thinking about what I’m going to do in terms of a vacation this year. Looking back over last year, I realized that I really only took one week of vacation (to the Dominican Republic), which probably explains why I’m a bit worn out lately. I talked to our accountant at work, and he said I have more than two weeks of vacation accrued already. So, I talked it over with my boss, and I think I’m going to take two weeks off in June.
Truthfully, I can’t remember the last time I’ve taken more than one week at a time off. My dad has always said that one week is not enough to recharge your batteries — just as you’re getting rested up, you have to go back to work. Plus, if you’re gone for one week, people will just pile stuff on your desk for your return, but for two they’ll often give your work to someone else while you’re gone.

The Monterey Peninsula, California
What am I going to do during those two weeks? I actually think I’m going to hop in the car and tour some of the United States. I have to be in LA on the 20th of June to hang out with my niece and nephew at Disneyland, so I figured I’ll slowly make my way down there, camping at various locations in the states. Plus, Tony has promised me a night of nachos and beer on the water somewhere near LA, so I’m definitely looking forward to that (I haven’t been to LA in about 20 years).

I’ll probably leisurely make my way back up the coastline, stopping in Santa Cruz, San Francisco, and various spots in Oregon. I’m pretty sure I have friends scattered all over the place, so I’ll probably randomly pop in for beers when I stroll through. I also want to hit a few national parks, and maybe even hit Vegas again for a night. Matt’s show is on the 26th of June back in Vancouver, so I definitely want to be around for that (I can’t remember the last time I saw him with a full band).
I’m definitely looking forward to it. Also, for those of you who read most of my content in your RSS readers, I just added my BraveNewCode entries to my RSS stream. Hopefully those will start showing up for you now.

As you know, I just got back from 10 days in Hawaii and it was the first vacation I’ve taken that was over a week long and I can totally relate to your dad’s wise words.
I’ve done the BC->Vegas->L.A. loop a couple of times and different routes so we’ll have to get together and I’ll give you a few cool places to check out in between the obvious ones.
Too bad they don’t have the Disney campground anymore beside DisneyLand (it’s been paved over by Disney’s California)…that used to be a fav place to stay in L.A.
I bought a travel book called “Road Trip USA.” I hope it’s good.
hey just don’t pull what you did last time we were in San Fran. Of all the places to see in San Fran, a parking lot is not the best choice. Dumb ass
I’ve been contemplating LA as well…
Always wanted to go to Disneyland, hopefully one day I’ll be there :). btw, The Monterey Peninsula looks great!
I think it is all and all the start of a perfect adventure for you Duane….with some R & R. So glad we’ll hook up for a little Jedi trainging and some Pirattes of the Carribean….maybe we can even take a look at the tea cups - just for old times sake!!
Luv ya bro…
