Friends & Family
I tend to do a fair bit of traveling, mostly because of the number of conferences I try to attend each year. Unless you’re the keynote speaker at an event, it’s typically not normal to receive compensation for your speaking slot at any of the smaller conferences, especially those that are primarily community driven.
Thankfully, many companies have gone out of their way to help assist with costs for various events, or for some of my personal travel. To that end, I’d like to recognize those companies here.
Coast Hotels
Coast Hotels was nice enough to invite me along to a weekend away in Victoria, BC, Canada a while ago. They put me up in a great harbour-side room with a view, and also provided a weekend of activities, meals and of course, drinks. It was a great time, and I’m thankful they took me along for the ride. Special mention goes out to Danny Dang, who helped organize the event, and has also helped with some accommodation for an upcoming conference, specifically WordCamp Portland.
Kimpton Hotels
I’ve stayed at various Kimpton Hotels in North America, and have always had a great time. I’m attending an event in Seattle in November, and Kimpton’s Alexis Hotel in Seattle was nice enough to offer me a Fireplace Suite for the weekend there. Much appreciated. Special thanks go out to Brandyn Hull for putting it together. I’m hoping to take a pile of photos to help return the favor while I’m down there.
West Coast Air
In 2009, West Coast Air along with Tourism Vancouver (as well as Miss604) managed to get me up in a scenic float plane tour of Vancouver. It was a great time, and I wanted to mention them here. West Coast Air offers trips from Vancouver to Vancouver Island, as well as awesome scenic tours around the Vancouver area. Definitely check them out.
