I’m a big supporter of the environment, and try to not only do what I can to reduce my own carbon footprint, but also to inspire others. I have started a few initiatives via my blog, such as my CFL challenge a few years ago, an event where I challenged my readership to replace some incandescent light bulbs with lower energy compact fluorescent variants. I have been a big supporter of Earth Hour, and helped build an Earth Hour plugin for WordPress last year to help bring exposure to the event.

In 2009, Dale Mugford and I both started offsetting all of our company travel with BraveNewCode. All of our purchased carbon offsets are certified as gold standard, and are purchased through PlanetAir. We also keep an updated list of donations and purchased carbon offsets on our company website. In addition, I’m also planning on offsetting my personal carbon footprint at the end of the year, for both my energy and transportation usage.
