No, I’m Not Dead

Turns out I haven't written anything in almost two weeks now. Truthfully, I almost completely forgot about my blog, partially a consequence of not having anything to write about, and partially due to all the things I have going on lately. I've actually quite enjoyed taking a break, and don't really think you'll see much in the way of content over the next few months, other than a post here and there when I'm bored or have something on my mind. If you want, follow my Twitter stream for some random amusement. I spent the last weekend ...

Hiking, Camping, And All Things Duane

Posted on February 22nd, 2010 in Personal :: 4 Comments

I woke up yesterday to another sunny day here in CowTown™. I was debating going to the gym, but decided instead to go and try a local hike. So I pulled my hiking boots out of a box, found some clean socks, and drove up to the trailhead for Teapot Hill, which is only about 10 minutes from my house. Teapot hill isn't that hard of a hike, but considering I haven't been hiking really in years, it did a good job of wearing me out. The elevation gain is only around 300 meters, but a lot ...

On the way

Posted on January 31st, 2010 in Personal :: 2 Comments

I'm currently in Victoria, awaiting my ride back to Vancouver. I already checked my laptop as baggage so I'm writing a quick entry from my iPhone. Today was a gorgeous day out here, and Jeff, Maya and I spent most of it outside. One of the things I decided today was that I want to join some sport or team this spring, even if it's on a drop in basis. I kind of miss being outside or being involved in a competitive sport, partially due to the exercise, and partially for the social aspects. I used to be pretty good ...

To Dream, Or Not To Dream

Posted on January 13th, 2010 in Health, Personal :: 5 Comments

So today is January 13th, which means I've been both caffeine and pop (soda for you Americans) free since the start of the year. I've given up caffeine at various times in my life, so that's not amazingly impressive for me. But I can't say that I've ever given up pop for more than a few days at a time before. I've had quite a few problems sleeping over the last few years, and I often have trouble both falling asleep and staying asleep. It seems even the smallest of noises will wake me up sometimes, or even ...

Shaw Cable Internet Update

Posted on January 12th, 2010 in Personal :: 1 Comment

It's been over a month of me trying to get some resolution to my problems with my Internet at home, and I'm happy to say that I'm a step nearer today. I imagine it's due to everyone's help on Twitter to be honest, since a few people made a few calls internally on my behalf. So thanks if you helped out. I got a call a while ago from someone within Shaw who was informed of my problems. Right away, she said she was going to make some price adjustments to reflect the fact that my service has ...

Saved By My Nexus Pass

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in Personal :: 7 Comments

I picked up a Nexus pass about a year ago, mainly because I thought it would help with the amount of travelling I have been doing over the years. In theory, a Nexus pass will let you cross the US/Canada border without waiting in those huge line ups. My first attempt at using my Nexus pass was by road. It's a bit scary using it, because they have so many restrictions in place for the program. For example, if you do something wrong (like attempt to bring a person across with you who isn't a Nexus card holder), they ...

Another Year Falls

Posted on January 2nd, 2010 in Personal :: 1 Comment

I haven't had time to write a New Year's post yet, but I thought I would now. Truthfully, in terms of personal life events, this year was thankfully fairly normal, especially when placed in the context of the last few years. Back in January I left my Vancouver job to work with BraveNewCode full time with Dale, and that's been a great experience so far. But other than that, my life has thankfully become a bit more normal, lacking hospital visits or any surgeries. Last night I rang in the New Year with a few friends in Charlotte, ...

Merry Christmas

Posted on December 24th, 2009 in Personal :: 4 Comments

It's not officially Christmas yet where I am, but it's only about six hours away on the east coast of Canada, so that's close enough. As most people know, I moved back to my home town back in January to be closer to some of my old friends and of course my family. The last time I lived in Chilliwack in any capacity was when I was 18 years old, right before heading off for the city and university. So, this is my first Christmas as a resident of Chilliwack in about 14 years. Pretty wild ...

The Holidays

Posted on December 20th, 2009 in Personal :: 4 Comments

Ah yes, here we are. Given that we're only four days away from Christmas, I'm starting to think that maybe I should do some of my Christmas shopping. I'm a pretty big shopping procrastinator though, so I imagine it'll be down to the wire. Strangely enough, I haven't really gotten into the Christmas mood yet, which is rather unusual given how much I enjoy Christmas. Last Christmas I ended up working through most of the holidays, so this year I've decided to take it easy and enjoy a bit of downtime. While I have a ...

Yours Truly Is In A Book

Posted on December 19th, 2009 in Personal :: 2 Comments

Courtney Summers is an author of young adult books and also a client of BraveNewCode's; we've been really fortunate to work with her a few times and help her out with a few iterations of her website. A few months ago I was joking on Twitter with Courtney that it would be cool if she found a way to put me in her next book. Well, Courtney got the final version of her book to proof last night, and sure enough, she managed to sneak me in. As you can see, there's a character in her new book, Some ...
