Heading To The Island

Posted on January 27th, 2010 in Travel :: 1 Comment

This upcoming weekend I'm shutting the computers down and heading over to Vancouver Island. One of my best friends from high school (and also university) lives over in Oak Bay in Victoria now -- strangely enough I haven't really seen him in about a year, mainly because we've both been busy. I'm sort of known amongst my friends as the guy who is always busy. I don't try to be, it just always seems like there's some event or something I've committed to that I have to go to. That's why a few months ago I said I ...

Whirlwind New Year’s Adventure

Posted on January 1st, 2010 in Travel :: No Comments

Wednesday night I boarded a plane for Charlotte, North Carolina to ring in the New Year with some friends at the Whisky River tavern. I got in early in the morning yesterday, took a nap, then dolled myself up a bit for the event. Mike Smith (Bubbles from the Trailer Park Boys) was actually there too, and he got up on stage and sung his Liquor and Whores song. Afterwards, Matt put on a great one-hour set, with Mike Smith joining in on Born Losers. After the show we all just hung out at some tables on ...

And Away We Go

Posted on December 30th, 2009 in Friends and Family, Travel :: 1 Comment

I'm currently sitting at Gate C43 in Vancouver International airport, on my way to Charlotte, NC for New Year's eve party with a few friends. My friend Matt is the live entertainment for a party that Dale Earnhardt Junior is throwing, and I thought it would be cool to ring in the new year with everyone down there instead of spending it in Chilliwack. Flights around this time of year are around $800 return, but thanks to that recent terrorist scare, I found a couple steals for a little over $300 return, which is why I booked yesterday. ...

Charlotte, North Carolina Bound

Posted on December 30th, 2009 in Travel :: 3 Comments

Tonight I went out for a few drinks with my friend Tony, and it became apparent that I didn't have any idea what to do with myself for New Year's Eve. So, with that in that mind, I've come up with a plan. I'll be heading to Charlotte, North Carolina tomorrow night for New Year's eve, which should be a lot of fun. My friend Matthew Good is the entertainment at a party hosted by Dale Earnhardt Jr, and it looks like I'll be going. It's a really quick trip, and I'll be coming back on Friday. ...

The Digital Vagabond

As I've mentioned in previous posts, I've seriously been considering doing a bit of travel. Part of that is complicated by my desire (at some level at least) to purchase an apartment sometime soon. I met with a realtor today to go over some listings in the area, and am slowly transitioning from passive looking into active looking. I'm really not sure of my timeline yet if I were to buy something, but probably sometime in the next 3 to 6 months. I'm also seriously debating heading to Serbia for a few months in the spring or summer. ...

Day 11 – On The Home Stretch

Posted on November 29th, 2009 in Travel :: No Comments

It's hard to believe that I've been down in the Caribbean for 11 days now, but that's how the math works out. I woke up this morning and spent a few moments trying to figure out what day of the week it was, since it's pretty easy to lose track. Sara made it home ok, and Dale and I have been working on some BraveNewCode stuff since she left. Yesterday we spent most of the day in the room, Dale designing away and me coding away. We're keeping the lid on most of the things we're working on, ...

Day 5 – Another Day By The Pool

Posted on November 23rd, 2009 in Travel :: No Comments

I woke up late today, not that I'm really keeping track of the time or anything. I was originally gonna stroll down to the gym when I woke up, but slept a bit later than I normally do so I skipped the gym and the morning buffet. I met Dale and Sara by the pool for a few hours of reading, a bit of snack bar love, and then ultimately made it down to the gym for a bit of a mini workout. The days here seem to go fairly quick, even though we don't really ...

Heading To The Caribbean

Posted on November 17th, 2009 in Travel :: No Comments

In a little over 24 hours, I'll be heading into Vancouver with my friend Tony, ultimately ending up at Vancouver International for a flight to Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. This will not only be the first vacation that's ever been longer than one week, but it'll also be the first time really since March where I'll have had a full week to basically kick my feet up and relax. While the last few weeks have been a bit light in terms of work, Dale and I have been going pretty much non-stop all of this last ...

Sunshine, Windy Times, Dirty Clothes

Posted on November 1st, 2009 in Travel :: No Comments

How's that for a title? It'll pretty much sum my day up when it's all over. For whatever reason, I've been super tired lately. Despite getting a fairly normal amount of sleep during the week, I've hit the last few weekends completely exhausted. Yesterday, for example, I spent a few hours sleeping on the couch by the fire. Upon waking up in the early evening, I watched a few movies, and then went straight to bed, sleeping in until around 10am (after the time change). It definitely feels great, but I really don't know ...

A Weekend At The Delta Grand Okanagan In Kelowna

Posted on October 12th, 2009 in Travel :: 1 Comment

A while ago I was approached by a Vancouver public relations company and asked if I wanted to be a guest of the Delta Grand Okanagan hotel in Kelowna for a weekend. The offer came right at a period of time where I was feeling a bit burnt out, so I gladly accepted and started packing my bags. The route from Chilliwack to Kelowna involves taking a highway through the mountains. Depending on the weather conditions, often you'll find snowy conditions near the summit. Just in case I encountered those types of conditions I packed my ...
