Vancouver Stock Photos

Posted on February 8th, 2010 in Photography :: 3 Comments

As most people know, I spent a lot of my time in Vancouver taking photos of the city. I was one of the first people in the city to dabble with high dynamic range imagery, and because I carried my wideangle lens around with me quite often, ended up with quite a few HDR images of Vancouver. While down in the Dominican, I was talking to Dale about possibly putting together a little package for media organizations during the Olympics. While in the process of putting that together over the last few weeks, I figured I might as well ...

Read a pretty good piece at the LA times about how art is becoming a commodity.

Concert and Low Light Photography

Posted on December 13th, 2009 in Photography, Tutorials :: 4 Comments

Without a doubt, shooting in low-light conditions is one of the most challenging aspects of taking photographs. I would still probably rate weddings a bit more challenging (since most weddings include some elements of low-light in addition to outdoor shots), but it's definitely near the top of my difficulty scale. With the advent of digital cameras, most SLR bodies now have the ability to allow the user to arbitrarily increase the ISO setting on the camera in order to improve the low-light responsiveness. So obviously when a photographer encounters a low-light situation, he or she can simply increase the ...

Website Update

Posted on July 14th, 2009 in Wordpress :: 3 Comments

It's been about three days since I launched the new site, and I've had some great feedback regarding it (thanks everyone). I've made a few small tweaks based on some comments, so hopefully it's a bit better. I've been watching my traffic, and so far I've consistently about double the traffic (actually, a tad bit more) since launching. I'm sure part of that is a transient contribution from launching a new site and Twittering about it, but I'm fairly certain the traffic will definitely go up, since there's now a lot more to do here now (specifically in the ...

Facebook Photography Page

Posted on July 1st, 2009 in Asides :: No Comments

I put together a Facebook photography page a while ago. If you use Facebook, and like some of the photos I've taken, then please become a fan of this page. I'm going to be redoing my personal website shortly to be more photo centric and mostly reflect my online photography as opposed to some of my writings.

Vancouver Scenic Photography Sale – Limited Time

Posted on June 29th, 2009 in Photography :: 3 Comments

About 18 months ago a few people encouraged me to put some of my photos online for sale. Given that my Vancouver scenery ones are the most popular photos in my portfolio, I've pretty much only focused on that. I've actually made a decent amount by selling them, probably enough to be able to afford a cheap lens, which is pretty cool. The next item on my wish list is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, which is one of the most affordable full frame cameras on the market. Unfortunately, the list price of that camera is ...

New Site Coming

Posted on June 15th, 2009 in Personal, Wordpress :: 3 Comments

I'm going to overhaul this website again, most likely starting in July. To be perfectly honest, writing content just isn't as satisfying as it once was, partially because I don't have as much to write these days, and partially because I am just enjoying other aspects of my life more (such as going outside to hit some tennis balls around or heading up to the lake for lunch). Something I've always wanted on this blog, and that I've never really been able to achieve, is to have something that's predominantly photo-centric. So my goal in July will ...

Photo Entry #1: I Got Nothin’

Posted on May 12th, 2009 in Bits and Bites :: 4 Comments

I haven't really had much to say on here in a while. Other than maybe a camping trip this weekend, and WordCamp San Francisco at the end of the month, the next six weeks or so are pretty booked up solid with some client projects. After that I'm going to take a bit of a break for the summer and do some camping or maybe even head over to Europe to visit some friends. So on that note, I'm going to take a break from traditional blog posts and do a week or so worth of photo entries. ...

New Wedding Photography Section

Posted on April 5th, 2009 in Asides, Photography :: 1 Comment

It's probably because it's been so nice these last few days at home, but I'm actually finding myself itching to shoot another wedding this summer. To that end, I've started assembling a wedding photography section. It needs a lot of work, but at least I have something for now until I can spend a bit more time on it.

Getting Art For Your Walls

Posted on February 22nd, 2009 in Bits and Bites :: 4 Comments

My walls in my new place are still pretty bare, and that's something I've been trying to fix lately. I went down to Ikea a few weeks ago a bought a pile of frames, but unfortunately finding anything to put in them has proved to be fairly difficult. The first problem is that I don't really have great photo backups of shots I've taken. If I were smart, I would have been uploading everything to Flickr at full resolution so I could use that as my archive. Unfortunately, I haven't done that, so most of my photo ...
