Two Days With The New Macbook Air
I’ve been a pretty loyal user of Apple’s Macbook Pro line for the last few years. I purchased my first one after Northern Voice in 2007, mostly because the laptop that I recently had Vista installed on failed to work for me during a presentation. Since then I’ve probably been through three or four of them, often upgrading every year or so to keep up with technology. The first few were the 15″ model, and » read more »
Weird iTunes Error Message
I tried purchasing an application tonight in iTunes, and received the following error: For Google’s benefit: “Please contact iTunes support to complete this transaction”. I tried again and again with the same results. Afterwards I tried from my computer and got the same cryptic error message. I contacted Apple iTunes support tonight, and here was their response: Welcome to iTunes Store Customer support. I am Chandan. I understand that you are not able to make » read more »
Macbook Pro + Hybrid Drive = Crazy Awesome
My friend Dale picked up a Seagate Momentus XT 7200 RPM hybrid drive not that long ago and put it in his Macbook Pro. Shortly thereafter he was raving about how fast it was, so I decided it would be a good idea to put one in my computer as well. Dale brought one down to Mexico, but unfortunately neither of us had a Torx screwdriver to change out the one on my computer. So » read more »
iPad Data Rates In Canada
As many people know, Rogers announced the 3G data pricing for the iPad in Canada. As expected, many people are upset about it, partially due to the lack of bandwidth, and partially due to the lack of an option to couple it with the iPhone data plan. One good aspect of the announcement is the lack of a contract required for the data portion for the iPad. I for one am sick of locking myself » read more »

The iPad Will Change How I Go To The Bathroom
It’s true. Sure, it might not have flash, and it might not come with 3G by default. But really, do any of those things matter when you’re sitting on the porcelain god? I think not. Obviously a laptop is too big to take into the can. Well, at least I hope nobody is taking the laptop into the can (Dan Lilly, that means you buddy). That leaves the iPhone or the iPad. iPhone works decent, » read more »
Another Trip To The Apple Store
It seems like I spend a lot of time at the Apple store trying to get things fixed. My current laptop has had the LCD replaced, and the main board twice now. My previous laptop also spent a few visits behind closed doors there as well. Truth be told, in the shower today I was trying to think of any other devices I’ve ever owned that have been in for repair as often, and I » read more »
Entry #10 – iPhone 3G Feature Request: Thermometer
When Apple introduced the iPhone 3GS, they added a new piece of hardware: a magnetometer. That little do-dad can pick up magnetic field lines, and basically act as a virtual compass. While kind of a neat feature, I don’t think it’s very practical. I mean, pretty much every iPhone 3G user I know has the data plan, which basically means they can access Google Maps whenever they want. Yes, you can’t get a real time » read more »

New Macbook and Macbook Pros Announced
I’m sure it’s old news by new, but Apple announced updates for their Macbook lines today. They look pretty snazzy, sporting thinner aluminum cases and black plastic near the monitor. I’m not sure I’m sold on the decision to make the monitor glossy (as this makes it more difficult editing photos, IMO), but all in all it looks like a step in the right direction. As I’ve indicated previously, I’m focusing on paying off my » read more »
