Whenever I can I try to take part in various charity events, either online or in person. This page details a few of the efforts I’ve made in recent years.
In 2008 I teamed up with Vancouver’s Miss604 (Rebecca Bollwitt) to try and raise money for the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver during an event called Blogathon. During Blogathon all participants must stay up for 24 hours, contributing 48 blog postings during that time period.
To assist with our fundraising efforts, Canadian musician Matthew Good offered to open up the doors to the studio (where he was recording his latest album) to the highest bidder. Jane Smith placed a $4,000 bid, and ended up flying in for a visit from the UK for the experience.
Between Rebecca Bollwitt, Matthew Good and myself, we raised close to $10,000 for the Union Gospel Mission during the event, a fundraising record for the UGM at the time. You can also read Rebecca’s post about it as well.
In 2009 I decided to help raise money for the British Columbia Children’s Hospital in Vancouver. During the course of Blogathon I raised approximately $2,000 via online sponsorship, all of which went towards improving facilities and helping the children.
