Acoustic Amplifiers

Last modified on October 20th, 2009

I need an acoustic amp for my Takamine electric acoustic guitar. I really have no idea what the brand names are, or what a good amp to get is. I don’t need much for it. I would probably prefer it had a clean channel too so I could pump a mic into it.

Any recommendations?

traynor makes some decent ones. but… the MAIN thing you wanna do is take *your* guitar to a music shop and try a bunch. it’s not what others say is good – it’s what you think makes your guitar sound best, and that’s all that matters.

I picked up an Acoustasonic 30 amp by Fender last year from L&M and it’s been wicked. Has two channels so you can run an mic at the same time. You can always rent first, then if you decide to buy it they will put what you have already paid towards the final sale price.

  3. The Fender Acoustasonics are very nice, not just trading on the Fender name as you might expect. You can also look at more general-purpose keyboard amps which might do just fine for you. Here’s a nice list of some of the options (not including Traynor), though the Fenders do seem to be quite well priced for what you get:

derek has a point, lots of keyboard/vox amps with a decent EQ can be great for acoustic guitar amplification too.
