I pulled my laptop out of my case tonight and fired it up. I was immediately greeted with this:
As you can see, my LCD has a wicked crack in it. I did a quick scan in the forums, and replacing an LCD via the Apple store runs about $1000, which is rather insane. Thankfully I found a few companies on eBay that are selling the raw LCD screens for around $200, so I put in an order for a replacement. Hopefully I’ll be able to install it myself when it comes in the mail.
So as of right now, I’m without a laptop. Thankfully I have an iMac at home as well, so I’m not really in any trouble. But I do use my laptop quite a bit, so would like to get it up and running as soon as possible.
Ouch. I am not sure if you’ve seen my laptop, but it’s seriously more !@#%d up than the screen of yours, but I totally can relate to NOT having a laptop. It really sucks. Although I’m posting this comment on my about-to-die laptop 🙂
Ouch! And I thought I was having issues with my PC laptop.
BTW, Duane, what laptop bag did you end up getting (re: post back in February).
I’m assuming it’s out of warranty…but did you happen to buy it with a credit card? Does the credit card extend the warranty? Mine does…look into it since it replaced my old Powerbook’s hard drive for free when it died…no questions asked.
My credit card at the time had purchase insurance, but not extended warranty (my current one does though). I’m surprised you got it so easily (although that’s encouraging). When I tried to use my visa card’s loss insurance for my glasses, they informed me it was secondary insurance, and since I had house insurance, wasn’t eligible to use it.
@Eva – I got a Puma laptop bag. It’s nothing amazing, but it’s light and has funky pastel coloring.
Ouch that really sucks.
*Gasp*
How did that happen!?!
Are you going to be able to get it fixed before your trip?
Not really sure 🙁 Trip is delayed for a few weeks though, so that’s good!
