Crossroads 2.0 Alpha Now Available For WordPress

Last modified on July 28th, 2007

I’ve really been trying hard to get a new release of Crossroads out for quite some time, but with my job at work, it’s just so hard to find a few hours to spare these days. That being said, I’ve up-reved the plugin to version 2.0, and am making the changes I’ve done available as a download. This is an early alpha, and for sure it has a few bugs, so please don’t expect it to be perfect.

Compared to version 1.0, here are some changes:

  • Added support for GreyBox image gallery
  • Added support for HighSlide JS image gallery
  • Fixed a few changes with how the scripts were loaded to improve compatibility
  • Added more adminstration options
  • Removed Flickr comments from posts, as these were very slow — you can re-enable them via the admin panel if you want

The original plugin page for Crossroads can be found here, and it details how to use it and provides a demo using Highslide JS.

Please note that I have included the image galleries as part of the distribution (for compatibility reasons), but that it is your responsibility to head over to Lightbox, Greybox or HighSlide and verify that you are conforming to their licenses if you use them on your site. A few options still don’t work properly (namely the local image caching), and I haven’t tested HighSlide that much at all.

So, without further ado, here is the download link for Crossroads v2.00a. Please post feedback or bugs as comments to this post. Also, for those of you with blogs that use it, I’d appreciate it if you can add a link to this post to get the word out (I’ll add a Crossroads RSS feed at some point). Thanks.

I’ve just loaded up the previous version and am starting to try it, but this looks good.

I’m also running “related posts” and the flickr thumbnails are appearing underneath the related posts. I suppose this is a dumb question, but how do I make them appear above the related posts?

I have a suggestion make a way for this to follow your flickr feeds. I hate having to go to sets and uploading the photos i want to show up on my blog, it would be alot easier especially for someone who takes alot of phone cameras then uploads them to flickr if there was some way for this code to show your flickr feeds. Also have an option to show how many pictures you want to show up on the page like if you only want 10 pics to show up on the page or from that feed then it would be a great option. Either than that this is a brilliant and handy apps thanks for the hard work

    Truely a great plugin.

I have spotted one bug in line 135 of crossroads.php I believe:

    /highslide-3/highslide-html.js”>

    should be:

    /highslide-3/highslide/highslide-html.js”>

The same incorrect folder reference is also present in 4 of your example html files, basically it is found each time highslide-html.js is referenced.

I’m loving this plugin. Already using it on my website.

Is there anyway to allow an increased amount of space after the pictures (at the bottom)? No matter where I put the tags, they are always at the bottom of the blog and right up against the previous blog with almost no space.

    Thanks for a great plugin.

Sweet plugin! The “Enable local caching of thumbnails” does not seem to work.
I added the ‘crossroads_media’ dir and gave apache write access but still nothing.

    The error I get:
Warning: fopen(crossroads_media/5827eb14fb8f43e89ef34bd514d8ffda) [function.fopen]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in /var/www/localhost/htdocs/blog/wp-content/plugins/crossroads/crossroads.php on line 81
    unable to open output file.

The function fopen is allowed on my server.

    Thanks!

Great plug in. Is it possible to add an option to display the description of the photo and the tags, in addition to the title?

    Thanks for sharing, great job!
