Yes, sports fans, it’s been twelve days since I decided to move my hosting back onto my living room floor. So far, it’s been 12 days of pure bliss, of heavenly visions filled with bunny rabbits and endless fields of sunshine and happiness, where kids run forever.
But seriously, things have been going rather great. I haven’t had a single hiccup, and get complete SQL backups emailed to me twice a day, just in case something were to ever go wrong. All my data is backed up with RAID 5 storage (and will email me whenever a drive starts to get old, thanks to hourly SMART diagnostics), so unless my apartment explodes, everything should be ok.
I’ve noticed the guys are Media Temple hitting my site from time to time, so I’m hoping they can figure out their problems soon. I still have a hosting account there, and wouldn’t mind going back to using it at some point. But I’m ok for now where I am.
So uhh… when are you going to start hosting the rest of us on your oh-so-sweet-and-stable setup? 🙂
What are you using to automate all your backups (including SQL)? Are the SQL dumps the only thing you push off your server?
Yah, I just run a cron job that basically pipes mysqldump to an email address (after gzip’ing it of course). I can restore WordPress easily enough. At some point I’ll do a disc image for the OS so I can just restore that to a stable state, should that drive ever die.
What happens if you trip over the power cord and unplug the thing in a drunken stupor?
Sounds like a very nice setup. What problems did you have with Media Temple? I have moved over to their gs hosting package recently and have actually been fairly impressed with their service, particularly that they let me host lots of sites with various domain names on one server – so was just interested to know what might have put you off it.
I’ve just found them rather slow lately, and they have gone down like once every couple days.
