The Lovely Bones

Peter Jackson’s next film is “The Lovely Bones”, based on the novel with the same name. I haven’t read the book, but I understand the basic premise — a young girl is murdered, and she watches the aftermath of her life from the great beyond. Other than that, I don’t really know that much. But given how much I liked Lord of the Rings, I’m anxious to see how Peter Jackson does with a new film. Truthfully, I thought his King Kong remake was a little weak.

Here’s the trailer:

  1. Peter Jackson is also the producer on “District 9”. Makes me curious to see it.

(Fyi – Couldn’t get that trailer to load on here, watched it on the apple.com) I actually just finished reading it earlier in the summer. It was a gut wrenching and often difficult book to read, but quite good.

The trailer is not at all what I would have imagined the movie of it to look like. Casting aside, the vibe of the book was very sort of quiet and delicate, and not at all big Hollywood like. I would have imagined it more the style of maybe… Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind? Or Fargo. Ya like that. Quieter kind of creepy. No special effects like.

Anyway, will have to see it when it comes out!

Yah, I’m a bit bothered that it instantly reminds me of that Robin Williams film, What Dreams May Come..

Oh TOTALLY I didn’t even think of that. It certainly seems like a Jackson style *adaptation* of the story…

Lovely Bones is such a good book.
