The North Shore

Last modified on November 16th, 2008

Yesterday morning I found myself in Pacific Center mall doing a bit of shopping for Brennen’s daughter, Kaede. I ended up getting her this pretty cool Canucks shirt (thanks to Beth for the idea):

I ran into Ianiv in the mall, and we ended up chatting for a bit. One of the things I’ve been debating for quite some time now is moving out of the downtown core. My first choice is somewhere on the North Shore, hopefully fairly close to the Seabus (since I work downtown). Whenever I’m out that way, it just seems more community oriented, and easier to get around than downtown. My second choice is the West End, but I was reading that vacancy rates in the West End are less than 1%, so it’s probably harder to find a decent priced place there.

So, if anyone has a line on anything in the next few months that goes for less than $1200/month, please let me know. As long as it’s relatively clean and quiet, it’ll probably be fine.

If I knew sooner, there was a 6th floor corner unit (view of english bay) in my girlfriends building (comox & gilford). We were looking at that and an 8th floor. We decided on the 8th floor corner unit. But it was going for $1200 (~700 sqf) Though I think it is taken by now.. 🙁

Glad you liked the idea. As I tweeted, I just think child sized Canuck clothing is the cutest ever!

Also, I was suprised to read that your friend’s kid is named Kaede. I have a friend named Kaede and have never heard of any other Kaedes before!

His wife is half Japanese, and apparently it means something in Japanese.

Just looked it up.. Apparently it’s close to “maple leaf” in Japanese.

Yeah, my friend’s parents are from Japan and I think they chose the name because it means “maple” and they have moved to Canada.

The north shore is nice, but the only problem is your night life will shrink or cab bills will rise…there’s no way to get back after the seabus stops (12:30 I think?) and u can’t always drive if you’re going out drinking… But it is definitely quiet and more community oriented than false creek.
