The Ties That Bind

Tomorrow I’m heading back to Vancouver, most likely to make my last appearance for at least a month or two. As it’s the 30th of the month, I need to clean my apartment out there and give the keys back to the owner. I’ve been told workers are still frantically trying to put the ceiling in the bathroom back together, but since I don’t live there, it’s not really my problem I guess. The good news is that if the workers are still working away, it’ll probably reduce the amount of cleanup I’ll be expected to do.

About six months ago Rebecca and I did a 24 hour charity event for the Union Gospel Mission in Vancouver. At the 11th hour, Matthew Good offered to help, and offered a once in a lifetime opportunity to hear the completed tracks from his new album, Vancouver, for the highest bidder. The winner of that offer (who subsequently donated $4,000 to charity), was Jane Belinda Smith, who recently arrived in Vancouver for the event. Between the three of us, we raised approximately $10,000 for Vancouver’s homeless, which was something I was extremely happy with. So tomorrow night I’ll be meeting up with Rebecca, Matt, Jane, and Kevan (from the Union Gospel Mission) down at the studio in Gastown. I’m definitely looking forward to it, and am hoping Matt spins a few tracks from the new album. In addition, it’s also Rod Bruno’s birthday, so we all get to be there and hang out with him as he transitions to an older year (at least on paper).

After that, I’ll no longer have a place in Vancouver, and can focus all my efforts on setting up my home in Chilliwack. Most of my boxes are still unpacked, so it’ll be nice to relax this weekend and slowly unpack it all. I might actually try and find somewhere to crash in the city tomorrow night so I can hit Ikea and stuff on the way home. I also promised my niece and nephew that I’ll have them over for an hour or so this weekend, so I’m looking forward to that.

Surprisingly, I haven’t really felt like blogging that much since I’ve been out here. Part of that is simply because I haven’t had the time to keep up with current events. And part of that is because I’ve been enjoying lying on the couch, watching TV, and getting a good night’s sleep, which I’ve definitely enjoyed. Hopefully in a week or two I’ll be all set up out here, at which point I can start organizing the house warming party (which people keep emailing me about). So until then!
