Where Would You Go? What Would You Do?

Last modified on November 29th, 2010

I’m only about a month away from leaving on my big adventure. First stop is obviously Buenos Aires, and then over to Ireland to drink one of these bad boys with Andy.

After that, I really have no plans, other than to hit Serbia sometime around July. I also have some family that’s visiting China in August, so I may hit that as well.

So, if you were slowly making your way around the world, where would you go? What would you want to see?

Top of my list has always been travelling extensively through Turkey, and then cross the border from Turkey into Georgia and then travel into Azherbijan. This is likely a highly personal thing that other people would have little interest in doing – my grandmother was born in this area, and I’ve wanted to explore the region my entire life. It holds tremendous fascination for me.

Second on my list? South Africa. The politics and history have been something that has always intrigued me, and they have fantastic beaches/wineries etc. throughout. I would definitely want to see some of the bush country as well.

Third is Holy Land/Middle East. Again, my desire to travel in this region is due to personal interest in the politics and history. One of my cousins is in Haifa at the moment, and seems to be having a great time.

Most of these places are not ideal for women, or people with small kids. Both of which are me.

I’ve got a hankering lately to visit Scandanavia.

I’ve asked a lot of people who have traveled what their favourite destination was, and for a lot of them it is Turkey. So I would definitely like to visit there. Georgia would be interesting too. I’d like to visit South Africa, but it’s not really in my sights for this trip.

I’ve visited Finland before, it was pretty cool. But nowhere in actual Scandinavia before.

Machu Picchu then hang out with our friend Henry in Chile.

Also, I really loved Switzerland. I see Zurich being your kinda town.

Thanks! Henry already contacted me via my blog, so maybe we’ll meet up while I’m down there.

Have you heard of Pamukkale? It translates into “white cotton castle” in Turkish, and it’s one of the most spectacular naturally occurring sites I’ve ever laid eyes on. If you haven’t, google the photos. Dear Lord…it’s something else. Also, the markets around Istanbul are mind-blowing. Since you’re not a single chick who has to worry about creepy dudes who think women should be covered up, you should definitely go. And take lots of pictures so I can live vicariously through you. I was planning on taking a Greece-Turkey-Croatia cruise with hubby this May, but that won’t pan out due to work related travel. One of these days….

Hey! Just found your blog…good luck to ya! I love fellow travellers who are also nerds and do regular things when they’re not travelling.

I think any trip around the world must include Australasia. I’d skip Australia and do New Zealand…it’s ten times more beautiful, the people are friendlier and it’s still probably the most beautiful place I’ve ever been.

    Cheers mate.
