Entry #20 – My First HDR

 Journal

I was one of the first people in Vancouver to experiment with HDR (high dynamic range) photography a few years ago. I definitely wasn’t *the* first, because I actually got a bit of inspiration from a few other photographers in Vancouver who had been dabbling with HDR. For yucks, I thought I would include the very first HDR shot I ever put together. It’s a shot of Vancouver on a really storm day. I shot it from my balcony using a tripod, and merged three photos together using a tool on the Mac called Photomatix. Here’s the end result:

Vancouver Scenic Photography Sale – Limited Time

Photography

About 18 months ago a few people encouraged me to put some of my photos online for sale. Given that my Vancouver scenery ones are the most popular photos in my portfolio, I’ve pretty much only focused on that. I’ve actually made a decent amount by selling them, probably enough to be able to afford a cheap lens, which is pretty cool. The next item on my wish list is the Canon EOS 5D Mark II camera, which is one of the most affordable full frame cameras on the market. Unfortunately, the list price of that camera is around $3200, so it’s a bit outside of my price range at this point. Entry #12: Some Of My Favourite Photos

 Journal

As most of you know, I really enjoy photography. I have been fortunate enough to have received a bit of recognition for some of the shots I’ve done, and even managed to attend the 2008 Canadian Juno Awards as a photographer. I thought I’d post a few of my favourite shots here for those that are new here. Most of these shots make use of a technique called high dynamic range (HDR) photography. This entry was written for Blogathon 2008, and in support of the Union Gospel Mission charity. If you’d like to donate to the cause, please visit the blogathon donation page and fill out the form near the middle. You can also follow the blogathon RSS feed for this site by clicking here.

Free Desktop Backgrounds For Your Mac

Photography

Since I’m a new Mac convert, I thought I’d give a little back to the Mac community by creating a few free desktop backgrounds based on some of my HDR work. Here’s a shot of the famous Inukshuk overlooking English Bay in Vancouver. Here’s the sun rising over Vancouver’s Granville Street Bridge. The sun setting over the ocean near English Bay, Vancouver. And a shot of downtown Vancouver from the Harbour Center at Night. Head on over here to download one. I’ll add more as time goes on.
