Launch Party Vancouver 3

 Journal

Last Friday I met a pile of people from the Vancouver technology scene down at the Lamplighter pub in Gastown. Apparently that location is surrounded in controversy, since the Lamplighter has recently changed hands and has been transformed into a more “modern” establishment. I can’t say that I ever hung out in it before, but it seemed like a pretty cool place on Friday. I would have shown up and mingled regardless, but on Friday I volunteered to drop by and take some photos of the Vancouver Technology Women for this year. That list was put together by none other than blogger-extraordinaire, Dave Olsen. On that list was good pal and super hero, Rebecca Bollwitt. Rebecca Bollwitt Maura Rodgers was one of the main brains behind organizing the whole event, so a big thanks to her for putting it on (and for feeding me those free drinks all night, although […]

What Are You Up To Facebook?

Technology

This is a rather interesting move made by Facebook. Apparently on Friday they announced a new javascript library that would let you put Facebook applications on your own web page. Facebook announced Friday a new JavaScript client library that will allow Facebook apps to be displayed on any website. The client library allows users to make Facebook API calls from any web site and create Ajax Facebook applications on that website. Wei Zhu from Facebook explains the benefits: Since the library does not require any server-side code on your server, you can now create a Facebook application that can be hosted on any web site that serves static HTML. An application that uses this client library should be registered as an iframe type. This applies to either iframe Facebook apps that users access through the Facebook web site or apps that users access directly on the app’s own web sites. […]

Monday Morning + Facebook

 Journal

I’m currently at the internet cafe on Davie street killing some time waiting for a Dr’s appointment next door. I’ve been waiting for some test results from that whole stupid bacterial infection thing I got in the hospital last year. Not really sure what’s going to happen there. Tonight I’m also the official photographer for the Facebook Developer Meetup down at the Vancouver Film School. Rebecca (aka Miss604) will be down there doing the official live-blog, so make sure you check it out if you want to follow remotely. I’m looking forward to taking it easy next weekend. One of the things I’m historically not very good at is saying no to people. Lately I’ve been involved in so many things that I’m starting to feel spread a little thin. I’m not sure what I’ll end up doing next weekend, but I’m probably going to turn my cell phone off […]

Wings, Launch Party, Birthdays, and Facebook

 Journal

Well, it’s almost the weekend again. I awoke this morning to some major construction going on in one of the units around me, and I sure hope it’s done before Saturday morning rolls around. Last night I hit Wings on Granville with Rebecca, Keira and John. For those of you who haven’t been, it’s a quaint little spot next to the Howard Johnson hotel on Granville Street that has cheap wings from 2-6pm daily. Rebecca and Keira, photo by Keira The girls basically did two pitchers of beer by themselves, so I imagine they were feeling pretty tipsy by the time they left. This weekend is already shaping up to be fairly busy. Tomorrow night is the third Launch Party Vancouver 3 down at the Lamplighter in Gastown. I’ve been asked to come shoot some photos of the Vancouver technology community, so I’ll swing by and do that. I finally […]

Bloggers Kick Ass

 Journal

I watched Test The Nation tonight to see how the Bloggers and Rebecca faired on the show. The bloggers, in pure geeky awesomeness, managed the win! Here’s a shot of Rebecca holding the winning trophy! Photo by Miss604 Congrats guys! You did us all proud. John Biehler posted some great clips of Rebecca rocking Test The Nation. Check it out (and listen to the idiots booing in the background — I guess they thought they’d win?) I’m bookmarking your blog too.

Miss604 Heading To Test The Nation

 Journal

I was up late playing around with some stuff on the computer, and didn’t manage to actually lay down until around 2:30am. I figured since I was getting up at 6:30am to drive Rebecca to the airport that four hours should be enough time. Unfortunately I think forgot to factor in the amount of caffeine I had had over the course of the evening. So when my alarm started beeping at 6:30am, I realized I hadn’t really had any sleep yet. Upon arriving at the airport, Rebecca had a call from her people out in Toronto letting her know that her flight had been cancelled. So we went to Milestone’s restaurant to have something to eat, hoping eventually there would be a plane that would take her to Toronto. The strange thing is Air Canada didn’t really offer any excuse or anything for why the plane suddenly wasn’t flying at […]

Cloverfield

 Journal

Photo by miss604 Be afraid. Be very afraid. I’m heading out to watch this tonight with Rebecca, John and John. Rebecca had tickets to the Vancouver premiere and invited me along, which is totally exciting. I’m going on the record as saying I’m pretty sure this is going to suck (the trailer reminds me of a techy Blair Witch Project), but it’ll be a fun suck with a bunch of friends. That sounds dirty, I know. Check out the trailer below: I’m pretty sure the entire budget for the film went into the funky Independence-Day-looking poster, just to attract more people.

Thank God It's Friday

 Journal

Ahh yes.. Friday.. So exciting.. This was a really good week. I hung out with friends, got some stuff done in the office, and have a pile of fun things to do this weekend. After work I’m meeting up with Rebecca, Kasia and maybe Keira for some wings and beer. Life’s rough I know. Plus on the way over I want to buy a flash diffuser over at Leo’s Camera on Granville, something that I used at the last wedding I shot and wished I actually owned. Tomorrow there are two parties, one for Rebecca’s birthday and one for Kasia’s. I have to make appearances at both, but I think I can pull it off. And on Sunday is the beach photowalk I’ve been organizing. Should be a great time. I’ll post some links to the photos once they start making their way onto Flickr. I’m also listening to “Starts […]

Happy Birthday Rebecca Bollwitt

 Journal

Today is my good friend Rebecca’s birthday. To be honest, I’m not really sure how old she is, but I’m convinced she is dangerously close to being a cougar. I’ve only known Rebecca for about a year now, but I’m thankful we’ve gotten to be good friends in that time. Happy Birthday Rebecca!

Rebecca Represents

I was talking to good pal and fellow blogger Rebecca Bollwitt (aka miss604) online today, and she told me that she has recently been accepted to be on CBC’s Test The Nation show in a few weeks. This is obviously really exciting, and Rebecca will be part of a team of bloggers attempting to show off their combined knowledge on national TV. Congrats Rebecca, and best of luck on the show. We’ll do a group watching event here when the time comes. You can read more about it over on her site.
