Rainy Friday

 Journal

Last night I met up with Rebecca and John for some drinks at Fogg ‘N Sudds on Robson Street. It’s pretty much tradition with those two to watch any weekend hockey games down there, and whenever I can, I swing by to sample their fish bowl high ball drinks. Afterwards, we all went over to Trevor’s house and sat around drinking wine. Trevor has a pretty cool penthouse apartment in the West End with a great view of Vancouver. Me and Rebecca, Drinking And here’s a shot of John before the sleep fairy came and took him away: Good times. Tonight I have a birthday to go to in Kitsilano, and then tomorrow I’m heading out to Brennen’s place in White Rock for his daughter Kaede’s 1st birthday party. Should be a lot of fun.

Blogger Profile: Miss604

 Journal

I first met Vancouver’s own Miss604, Rebecca Bollwitt, last year at the Northern Voice blogging conference. I had checked out her blog occasionally, and I recognized her from photos both on her blog, and ones taken during Matthew Good’s living room show last year. Being the social guy I am, and fueled by some liquid courage, I walked up to Rebecca (who was also on her way to acquire booze) and started chatting. Since that time, I have gotten to know Rebecca and John quite well, and am proud to call them both good friends of mine. Rebecca’s blog is a witty ensemble of local Vancouver happenings, Surrey reflections, and of course, tons of Canucks related entries during hockey season. It’s a daily pleasure to read, and it definitely presents a unique flare on what Vancouver life is like living in the downtown core. So if you haven’t ever gone […]

Blogathon Nearing the Half-way Point

 Journal

Rebecca is only a few hours away from crossing the half-way point for blogathon. 100% of the contributions she receives will be going to the Surrey Food Bank — it’s not too late to head over to her site and drop a few dollars to support a good cause. I contributed a guest post on her website for the 3pm blog entry — you can check it out here.

Blogathon

 Journal

Rebecca (aka Miss604) is participating in a blogathon tomorrow to support a local Surrey charity.. So, I’d appreciate it if you spend tomorrow over on her site, reading her posts (one every 30 minutes for 24 hours straight), and hopefully dropping a small contribution her way. I plan to submit an entry or two during the day to help her out, so please drop by and give her some moral support! Thanks!

Transformers and Friends

 Journal

Today I met a few people down at the Paramount Theatre to watch the new Transformers movie. Rebecca, John Bollwitt, John Biehler and a few others (from the Facebook group we set up) all showed up to hear the infamous “cho-choo-cho-choo” transformation sound, and see Optimus up on the big screen again. Rebecca Simpson, waiting to see the Transformers What we immediately commented on is that despite 21 people replying and saying they were coming, only seven or so showed up. After discussing it for a while, we sort of came to the conclusion that it’s pretty easy to just accept an invitation on Facebook and then forget about it. Or perhaps people just get too many and it’s hard to keep up with them? Not entirely sure.. Maybe everyone just accepts everything they think they might show up to — “helping Duane move at 6am on a Saturday, you […]

Stanley Park Photowalk

 Journal

I have a wedding to shoot in a few short months, so I’ve been asking friends if they’d let me shoot them to get some practice. Today I met up with John, Keira and Rebecca for a quick photo walk in the park. To be honest, after doing this shoot, I think I feel comfortable shooting outside now. I sort of always assumed my 70-200mm f/2.8L lens would be pretty useless in poor lighting or in a wedding environment, but when I used it today with my speedlight, it was actually pretty awesome. Every time I pull that lens out of my bag and put it on (which isn’t often enough I’ve decided), I’m completely blown away but just how sharp and pronounced the images are. Plus, the bokeh is absolutely amazing on most of the shots. I’ve always sort of shot in P mode on my camera, which is […]

It's Hotter than a %#%%# in Here

 Journal

Jesus.. My apartment wasn’t made to survive the summer.. It’s currently 26C inside, and I’m sweating to death despite having all my windows and patio door open. I made the big mistake on Friday night of heading down to Bryght for a little party, and ending up drinking myself into a coma. I didn’t wake up until around 3pm the next day, which is surprising considering how hot it was inside.. I guess all one can really do in this heat is crack a few beers, kick your feet up, blare some music and take it all in stride.. Last night at around midnight, while in the middle of watching a pretty cool movie, the power went off in the building. As the last of the gadgets in my living room stopped beeping and whirring, I suddenly remembered a memo I received under my door a few days prior about […]

Changes in the Air

 Journal

On Friday, I met up briefly with Rebecca down at the Six Acres in Gastown for a few drinks on a patio. It was a good way to start a Friday afternoon, and since I had only woken up a few hours prior, I was definitely in the mood to drink and grab something to eat. Afterwards, we went down to the west-end for some pizza, and to hang out with John, who was busy playing with Dave Olsen’s new microphone on his computer. A bunch of my new blogger-type friends (most of which I originally ran into down at Northern Voice) were down at DemoCamp the other day, but unfortunately I wasn’t feeling up to venturing out of the house, so I stayed home and checked out Rebecca’s live blog of the event. Apparently for short notice, there was great interest and turn-out. Rebecca, obviously excited I’m taking her […]
