BlueRay Not Doing So Hot

Technology

This isn’t really a huge surprise to me, but apparently BlueRay sales aren’t doing very well at all. In fact, sales of BlueRay went down last month compared to the month before. There are probably a lot of reasons why other people aren’t buying them, namely the high price of current BlueRay players. But in terms of me, I’m not buying one simply because I’m still pissed off from the whole HD-DVD/BlueRay battle. On my shelf at home is a now useless HD-DVD player, which I purchased thinking HD-DVD would be around a little while longer. Since the industry basically screwed consumers with that whole debacle, I’m fighting back a bit with my wallet. Sony hoped to have a 50% market share this year, and right now they are sitting around 8% I think. Given that internet speeds are climbing fast, and that Apple TV now rents pseudo HD films, […]

Almost Vegas

 Journal

Right now, in Las Vegas, is the huge Blog World Expo. Most of the Vancouver tech-scene is down there, including Rebecca, & Arieanna and Ianiv. Last night I decided to head down this morning and join them until Monday morning, since it looked like they were having such a great time. I actually found a pretty decent flight special late last night, and I booked it for this morning. Unfortunately, when 5am rolled around and I had to get up for the airport this morning, I didn’t really feel all that well. Plus, doing six hours worth of plane travel seemed less fun than it did the night before. So anyways, needless to say, I canceled my flight and went back to sleep, waking up shortly before noon. The good news is that I feel fairly rested today, and am sitting around in my boxers listening to music, making breakfast […]

Entry #42: New Star Trek Coming Soon

 Journal

I’ve a die hard Star Trek fan — always have been, and always will be. My dad and I used to sit around every Sunday watching Star Trek The Next Generation in the old days, and I’ve fairly certain I’ve seen every episode of the original series. That’s why I’m looking forward to the new Star Trek movie coming out, which is essentially an origin story. [easyvideo video=”http://www.dailymotion.com/swf/x44i94″] Even though the trailer doesn’t really show anything, I’m fairly certain it’s going to be awesome! Entry #17: The Dark Knight Review

 Journal

I’ve always been a fan of the super-hero genre of films. Spiderman II was without a doubt my favourite of the bunch so far, mainly because of the character development and chemistry between Peter and Mary-Jane. While I have enjoyed the Batman series of films, I was never really that interested in the character. I think of all the versions, I like Michael Keaton’s version the best. Batman Begins was an interesting film, but I wasn’t entirely sold on the depiction of Batman by Christian Bale. Photo From Fox News I’ve seen The Dark Knight twice now, and I think it’s as close to perfection as you can get with a super-hero movie. A remember actually feeling emotion with a few of the scenes, especially near the end when everything is finally unfolding. The Dark Knight is a depressing film. It shows great people trying to do great things, only […]

Dear George Lucas

 Journal

Please, for the love of god, stop making movies. Whatever magic you used to bring to the table evaporated a long time ago. As you can tell, I saw the new Indiana Jones movie on the weekend. Unfortunately, I didn’t really enjoy it, and found myself looking at my cell phone from time to time to see how much more I had to endure. First, you don’t need CGI gophers to propagate the plot. The first time the camera swung by and I saw them, I almost groaned out loud, seeing the obvious resemblance to the little furry Ewoks that stunk up the screen during Episode VI of Star Wars. And to add insult to injury, he showed those stupid gophers TWO MORE TIMES, as if we somehow needed them in the film. To be honest, George Lucas used to make really good movies. The first two Star Wars films […]
